What is Whirlwind Wrestling LLC?
IC:
Main Staff and Information
Recently an acquired investment by an outside consortium belonging to athletic company BODYSLAM Pro Athletics, Whirlwind Wrestling LLC is a wrestling promotion produced and distributed exclusively on pay-per-view by Cyclonic Rift Productions Entertainment, which is a media and communications group based out of Monterrey, Mexico. After being acquired by BODYSLAM Pro Athletics, the new consortium made some changes to the setup and style of the product. Nikki Mynx, the attractive blonde woman that called several shows alongside then-partner and expert play-by-play analyst Derrick Thatcher, has been restructurred to a role of wrestling journalist, backstage correspondent, and occasional ring announcer while Derrick is tasked with calling the shows on his own. If you were here previously, you may be looking for The Knight Family, Toby and Baldwin. When the consortium took over the property, one of their first executive actions was to completely remove The Knight Family from power. Toby no longer has any equity stake in the company, and without his father there, Baldwin's role became unprotected. The new consortium posesses a 93% ownership stake in the company, while Derrick posesses a 6% and Nikki has just 1%. The Whirlwind itself is a wrestling product that blends classic Lucha Libre with Americanized professional wrestling and ties the two ends together with modern cinematic tools. The end result is a wrestling promotion that feels more like a movie production than a typical independent promotion. Unlike many promotions today, our product is distributed exclusively via Pay-Per-View service, and approximately on a three to six week schedule for the price of $19.95 per show. This leads to around 12 – 15 shows per year but all of high quality, as you'd expect from a higher consumer Pay-Per-View buy-in rate. Our home field is the Gimnasio Nuevo León deep in the heart of Monterrey, Mexico, although we do have touring capabilities, should we deem the time for a tour to be right.
Other Staff
In addition to the names above, there are three others involved with the company although they have no input in the creative direction.
Monte the Python he's the resident loafer backstage, usually he can be found in catering and occasionally badgering the office for a chance to go on for a match. He's not exactly well skilled in the ring, often considered unsafe, sloppy, lazy, and with downright poor cardio, but he's a cheap gopher around the office and he does a good job getting coffee for the real athletes - he even gets their coffee right nearly sixty percent of the time!
James Farva Experienced official in the past, James Farva makes his return to the ring for the first time in six years. He serves as the referee for all matches on the show, with the exception of the main event.
"The Jazz" Esteemed referee, Joseph Jasmine has had a hall of fame worthy career and amazingly, at seventy years old, he is still doing this today. "The Jazz" continues his career of upstanding professionalism and only the highest modicum of respect to all the athletes he works with. A true class act and locker room leader to the company. He serves as the head official for Whirlwind Wrestling and officiates all main event matches.
Typically our shows last approximately two to three hours (who would run a wrestling event for upwards of that? Seven plus hours? That sounds like the idea from a horribly out of touch rich seventy year old man...), meaning you can expect from three to five matches on a given card. This may mean that not every talent will be booked on every single card to compete, but each and every talent is encouraged to show up at the show, especially if they're not assigned to compete! After all pro wrestling as a whole is at it's best when the fans are kept guessing as to what will happen next!
We have one exclusive prize - the International Whirlwind Championship! Those whom have reached this point have demonstrated an ability to both draw people into their work, their stories, attract interest to our product, and on top of it all, EARNED it through their work ethic. There is nothing else; you're either THE champ, or not. Should the Whirlwind Champion be pinned or submitted in any match, the person doing so shall be entitled to a title opportunity versus that champion on the following show. Why? Because we want to ensure the best person is representing our product, and we don't want to stifle our champion's desire to prove themselves. Winning the title is only half the struggle, how long can you withstand the pressure of being labeled as “the best”?
When someone wins it, they then choose truth or dare on the very next show (so you should set up your first fight here with an AMAZING segment ). Once chosen, that decision is locked in for the duration of your reign.
If you chose dare;
All matches take place in some kind of a dangerous gimmick match. We will work together on an appropriate gimmick match for the character but there may be some key events with a specific match type locked in already. You won't repeat the same gimmick match during a single reign.
If they chose truth;
All matches take place under PRIDE fighting rules.
- Matches are fought under five, five minute rounds.
- Purposefully exiting the ring is a DQ.
- Athletes get up to 5 rope breaks total over the rounds.
- Title CAN change hands on a Pinfall, Submission, KO, or DQ.
There is no "championship advantage" when you choose the truth option, however the alternative is "how many times can you fall on thumbtacks and maintain a long career"? It's up to the character if they'd prefer training cardio for the potential 25min sprint of a match...or if they'd rather "spin the wheel of mayhem" and pray they don't get some kind of explosive light tube deathmatch.
OOC:
What we are is an angled, invite-only e-fed, where handlers collaborate with each other to hype a wrestling show the best. While it is not required to write promotional pieces outside the shows, your in-show “push level” is designated by your participation level on the shows, i.e. how you push your character's story line progression. While you can compete and win matches just by being here, you'll never be in a championship or otherwise featured program if you don't carry your story lines. Segment production is always optional, but without them your maximum potential in the fed is limited. Why limit yourself, when how far you can go is determined solely by your commitment and dedication? Your destiny is in your own hands.
E-feds always work best as a team effort. If my job is to book the shows, and provide the entertainment inside of the ropes between the bells, then your job is to promote your match either by conventional role-play, by in-show segments, or both. Therefore, how you push your story lines in-show is at your discretion (though I am available to help you produce your segments, and better steer you in your desired direction if needed). The more compelling you are to the TV audience, the more entertaining you are as a writer, that is how to get pushed to the top. Endear yourself to the fans, your co-workers in the back, and show you deserve every ounce of that spotlight that you want! This is my promise to you, both as the promoter of Whirlwind Wrestling and as the administrator of this site.
What do I have to do to get to the top?
1. The way to be pushed in Whirlwind is simple: consistent storyline building, consistent angles, consistent character development, working with others (bolded because it's the most important) and consistent participation.
2. If you wish to be involved in current storylines or create your own with someone else, please ASK before doing so. No one wishes to have confusion with the use of their characters or what is going on in the company. Don't let this scare you away from being involved. We want everyone to be involved in Whirlwind as much as possible. Our staff is always here for you to talk to when it pertains to these matters.
3. If we don't hear anything from you and your character seems to be lost in the shuffle, I'll give you something to do. Nine times out ten I’ll inform you of plans, but there will be times where things stay secret for surprise value. It’s up to you whether you continue the angle or not, but if you’re not doing anything, why are you here?
4. If you will not be available or able to do anything for an upcoming show or shows, please let me know so that I can book the cards accordingly.
5. Reading the shows fully is a must. Don't just skim or read your match and move on. There's always something going on in Whirlwind, and as rule 3 states, sometimes I'll toss you into a program so you have something to do.
6. If you ask for title opportunities or preferred billing, instead I'll send you to the back of the line. If you're active, dedicated, and having fun, I WILL push your character. Full stop.
7. SELL!!! What's the point of writing the creative for you and getting you involved, if you're not going to recognize anything?
8. No, you cannot debut in a world title match. I don't care how big you were in fed X/Y/Z.
Misc. OOC Rules. AKA the “don't be a jerk” philosophy.
1. Have fun. If you're not having fun, then why are you here?
2. Don't plagiarize others work, characters, or graphics. Period. If you're caught, you're banned. I don't care “why” you did it, so don't bother trying to appeal to me over it. It's irrelevant. Zero tolerance.
3. Try to make an effort to any show you're booked on. The requirements are light, the schedule is relaxed. Still, life happens, and if you can't make a deadline for whatever reason, just give me a heads up.
4. "It's your body, wrestle how you want to." I'll give you an opponent to work with a set number of shows to build to the big match. How the two of you get there is up to you. It's literally the closest thing to Creative Control without actually giving you say in who you go over and when. That said, please be at least a little bit tasteful in the subject-matter you write about, remember this is a game that persons of all ages could be reading and participating in, keep inappropriate content away from the boards. Use your head, use common sense. Grossly offensive content will be swiftly removed and, pending the severity of the content posted, may see other disciplinary action taken up to and including a banhammer.
